Buyer - Machined Parts

We provide design, development and support of internally designed components, subsystems and systems, as well as production of complex assemblies using external designs.
Based in Macomb, MI, Triumph employs approximately 300 personnel. The Company's key products and services include manufacturing, test and assembly of complete transmission and gearbox assemblies as well as complex gears and housing. Our design engineering group can specify and design any gear application, from simple build-to-print to collaboratively engineered, highly specialize applications.
We are looking for an experienced Buyer who will be responsible for buying finished parts that go into our assemblies that are regularly purchased in a lean environment.
Responsibilities
Coordinates all activities related to procurement of a commodity beginning with intent to purchase through delivery. This position will be related to machined parts / details commodities but may have opportunities in other commodity areas as need arises.
Complete accountability for material quotation, conducting cost/price analysis, developing supply sources, maintaining purchased records, negotiation, corresponding with vendors, reconciling delivery dates, receipts and vendor invoices and all other duties assigned.
Drives On Time delivery above 95% overall from all key suppliers.
Assist in driving Supplier Quality goal of 98.7% with supply base.
Ability to identify and drive cost reductions for commodity.
Understands the different levels of complexity in various quote packages and can evaluate proposal responses accordingly.
The buyer must be able to stay below target cost while maintaining an aggressive schedule on either short term or a long-term agreements.
Maintains timely control of orders, amendments, shipping notices, and other documents to assure accurate retention of records and compliance with all department procedures and goals.
Ensure on time delivery & quality via robust project management experience and tools
Contribute to improving DPO (Days Payable Outstanding) by managing supplier payment terms and schedule alignment (DIO ? Days Inventory outstanding).
Attend program material/status meetings and production meetings as required. Travel to suppliers may be required
Investigates and/or interviews potential suppliers to determine if they meet the specified requirements.
Buyers assigned for product groupings have direct and sole responsibility for JIT coordination with supplier.
Accurate definitions and specifications of the product being procured are based on established Engineering data and customer flow down.
Will participate in ACE/Continuous improvement events and activities such as Value Stream Mapping or Kaizen events and Policy Deployment.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business Management or equivalent preferred
At least 5 years of experience in procurement or related field in a manufacturing environment,
Min 5 years aerospace purchasing experience preferred.
Strong program management skills
Ability to function well in a fast paced, high pressure environment.
Ability to thrive in an environment of growth and change
Ability to read blueprints.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as material specifications, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, as well as the ability to read and interpret blueprints is highly desirable but not required.
Contributes to team effort by maintaining a positive outlook.
Ability to multi-task and meet critical deadlines
Ability to work independently, but also identify critical issues as they arise
Comfort escalating issues and presenting them to management team and/or customer.
Ability to remain calm under pressure and deal with ambiguity
Familiar using Visual Manufacturing ERP a plus.
Moderate travel required.



Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
